They arrived in Italy where they met warmer temperatures. Strolling through the town of Parma, they discovered that the inhabitants were joyful and easy to get on with. The town was a constant invitation to festivities. They also noticed products with original shapes among which certain cheeses reminded them of the Auvergne cooked pork meats. When they left the country, Guillaume was full of a much stronger faith transmitted by the hospitable and generous inhabitants who were in favour of the crusades. The journey was not only a quest for knowledge but became a personal enrichment in culture which he promised himself to exploit as soon as he returned to France. They were, however, only at the beginning of a long journey paved with obstacles. |
